Union Coating & Chemical Industries to Invest $11.9 Million and Create 60 New Jobs in Glasgow
GLASGOW, KY – The City of Glasgow is proud to announce a major economic development milestone. Union Coating & Chemical Industries, a leading global manufacturer of advanced powder coating solutions, will establish its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Glasgow, Kentucky.
The new facility will be located in Speculative Building 1 at the South Cooper Industrial Park and represents an initial investment of $11.9 million, with plans to grow to $20 million over time. The project will create 60 new jobs for Barren County residents.
Headquartered in 10th of Ramadan City, Egypt, Union Coating & Chemical Industries is recognized worldwide for its innovation, sustainability, and commitment to delivering high-performance coating technologies. The Glasgow plant will initially focus on producing powder coating compounds, with plans to expand into additional product lines as market demand grows.
“This announcement is a big step forward for Glasgow’s economy and our workforce,” said Mayor Henry Royse. “When businesses choose to invest here, they’re choosing our people, our values, and our future. We are excited to welcome Union Coating & Chemical Industries to our city and look forward to the opportunities and good-paying jobs this investment will bring. I also want to recognize Barren Inc. and the Barren County Economic Authority for their tireless efforts in making this possible, and to thank our county partners for the strong collaboration that continues to move our community forward.”
Dr. Yehia Talaat, Chairman of Union Coating & Chemical Industries, stated: “Establishing our first U.S. manufacturing facility in Kentucky is a significant expansion for Union. This investment reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability while allowing us to better serve customers here in the U.S. We look forward to building strong partnerships with the community as we grow together.”
Governor Andy Beshear also welcomed the announcement, noting: “Kentucky’s manufacturing sector momentum continues to power our surging economy. Quality businesses bring quality jobs, and Union Coating & Chemical Industries is exactly the kind of company we want to see thrive in the Commonwealth.”
Local leaders echoed that sentiment. Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Byrd called it “a milestone in our community’s growth and vibrancy,” while Maureen Carpenter, President & CEO of the Barren County Economic Authority and Barren Inc., emphasized that Union’s decision validates the county’s speculative building strategy and showcases the power of collaboration: “This project demonstrates what happens when city, county, and state partners work hand-in-hand to bring opportunities to our community. It’s a win-win for the company and for Barren County.”
With decades of experience and a proven track record of innovation, Union Coating & Chemical Industries’ expansion to Glasgow further establishes Barren County as a hub for advanced manufacturing.
