When Community Comes Together: How Bridge Kentucky Is Changing Lives in GlasgowIn Glasgow, hope isn’t just a word—it’s a daily reality, thanks in large part to Bridge Kentucky, a local nonprofit that has become a vital lifeline for families and individuals throughout Barren County.
Building Bridges Since 2019
Founded in the fall of 2019, Bridge Kentucky began with a simple but powerful mission: “Empowering individuals and families through comprehensive support, to cultivate a better community for all.”
From its early days operating in collaboration with local churches and the Boys & Girls Club, the nonprofit has grown exponentially in both scope and impact.
Wrapping Community in Support
Bridge Kentucky offers a full suite of wraparound services designed to meet immediate needs and help families regain their footing:
- Financial assistance to prevent eviction or utility shut-offs
- A food pantry stocked with nutritious groceries for households in need
- A clothing closet providing gently used clothing for men, women, and children
- Beyond basic aid, they assist with navigating social services, employment connections, and crisis response efforts such as tornado recovery
A New Shelter, A Brighter Safe Haven
Their dedication to sheltering those experiencing homelessness has taken a significant leap forward. After operating at their West Main Street location, Bridge Kentucky moved into a new facility at 1411 North Race Street. Here, they’ve retrofitted former exam rooms into eight private, comfortable rooms—a thoughtful upgrade from communal spaces, offering dignity and privacy to guests.
Executive Director Wade Copas highlighted how this move enhances the comfort and design of the shelter. Families and individuals facing hardship now have a more restful, safe place to rebuild their lives—and the transition itself represents a meaningful step forward in community care.
Measurable Impact & Compassion in Action
The numbers speak volumes. In 2023, Bridge Kentucky served 117 individuals in its shelter and support programs. Of those, a remarkable 88% achieved stability—by securing employment or living independently afterward.
The team at Bridge emphasizes that most clients are good people having temporary setbacks—not defined by their struggles. Many are sober, motivated, and ready to rebuild, and Bridge Kentucky helps set that path toward a better future.
Staying Connected, Serving Continuously
More than just a shelter, Bridge Kentucky serves as a daytime sanctuary—operating warming centers and keeping their doors open on West Main Street for those needing hot meals, safe spaces, or simply company. They also creatively support the community through events like back-to-school drives, coat giveaways, and even helping with law enforcement reentry, all while reinforcing a shared sense of belonging.
