Glasgow, KY – Nearly three years after a devastating fire destroyed Sam Royse Field at Richardson Stadium in Gorin Park, the community will gather to celebrate its grand reopening with a special First Pitch Ceremony on Friday night, March 28. This long-anticipated event marks the triumphant return of a permanent stadium for Glasgow High School’s Scottie Baseball team at their home field.
The fire in the summer of 2022 was a heartbreaking loss, claiming one of only two remaining wooden stadiums in Kentucky. Since then, Glasgow Parks and Recreation, alongside city leaders and community supporters, have worked tirelessly to restore this beloved landmark. The newly rebuilt stadium brings modern updates while preserving the spirit of the original site. While the stadium facilities are brand new, the playing surface, grass infield, and dugouts have been maintained to the high standard Scottie players and opposing teams have come to expect.
Opening day will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and appearances by special guests, including former head coaches Johnny Vance, Coy Meadows, and Sam Royse, who will throw the ceremonial first pitch. This gesture honors both the stadium’s rich legacy and the community’s dedication to bringing it back to life.
Mayor Henry Royse expressed his excitement for this milestone event:
“This field has always been more than just a baseball field — it’s a place where memories are made, and our community comes together. Seeing this space revitalized after such a tragic loss is a testament to Glasgow’s resilience and spirit. We’re thrilled to have former head coaches, assistant coaches, as well as players and fans, join us as we throw the first pitch. I know this new chapter for Scottie Baseball will be an exciting one.”
Scottie Baseball Coach Camerin Garmon added:
“I am very excited for the players and team to have a place to call home again. I hope families, friends, and community members come out to fill the stands and support our players. They work very hard and deserve to play in front of an energetic and positive crowd each game. The baseball program is very fortunate to have such a nice field and stadium. I want to thank Glasgow Parks and Recreation along with our school system for helping our program.”
Exciting New Improvements
The rebuilt Sam Royse Field at Richardson Stadium features several exciting updates designed to improve the experience for players and fans alike. Highlights include:

- Enhanced Field Lighting to accommodate evening games and extend playing hours.

Despite these new amenities, the iconic playing surface, grass infield, and dugouts — revered by Scottie players and visiting teams alike — have been preserved in pristine condition.
