A milestone moment for Glasgow! Today, city leaders, local farmers, and community members gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Glasgow Farmer’s Market—a project years in the making that will transform the way our town supports local agriculture and small businesses.
The new 4,818-square-foot market space will provide dedicated parking, restrooms, a large community area, and an upgraded, year-round market environment. This means more room for vendors, better accessibility for shoppers, and a permanent home for one of Glasgow’s most beloved traditions.
A Vision Becoming Reality
Mayor Henry Royse expressed what this development means for the city:
“This has been something that’s been on the drawing board for a great number of years. It’s so exciting to see the dirt moved, the ground broken, and to see how many people have been here today interested in seeing the next step.”
The Sustainable Glasgow team, who has long championed this project, was on hand to witness their vision take shape. Staco Construction is leading the build, ensuring that this market meets the needs of vendors, farmers, and customers alike.

A Market for All Seasons
For years, the Glasgow Farmer’s Market has thrived in the city square, drawing loyal crowds each Saturday morning. But there have always been challenges—limited parking, accessibility concerns, and seasonal closures. The new facility is designed to solve these issues and provide even greater opportunities for both vendors and shoppers.
As Mayor Royse noted:
“The farmer’s market has a great reputation here. They have so many solid vendors… but maybe the parking wasn’t the best. Maybe there was a lot of hill climbing to get to your favorite vendor. What this is going to do is make it easier to navigate. There’s going to be more room for vendors to set up here, and it’s going to be year-round.”
This expanded space will allow Glasgow residents to eat homegrown, shop local, and support farmers all year long—something that wasn’t always possible in the past. The heated facility ensures that winter markets can continue, eliminating the need for temporary, less optimal spaces.
Looking Ahead
The groundbreaking ceremony was a celebration of the work that’s been done—and a glimpse into what’s to come. This market isn’t just a place to buy fresh produce and handmade goods; it’s a gathering place for the community, a hub of local commerce, and a step forward in Glasgow’s economic and agricultural growth.
The Glasgow Farmer’s Market is about to get bigger, better, and more accessible than ever before!Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this project, and get ready for a brand-new way to experience the best of Glasgow’s local food and makers.
